Volunteer

While animals are at the shelter they need human touch.  Just imagine how a pet must feel after its family has left them in our care.  If the animal is a stray, they may need to learn how a loving touch feels.  That is where you can help! As a volunteer, you might walk with a dog, and play with or work on basic obedience and manners.  You might want to sit in one of the cat rooms for a while.  The cats love and need attention.  Brushing a frightened cat or dog will help them become better socialized.  Offering human touch and gentle voice can be a wonderful comfort to a stressed pet. You might also help the staff with the morning cleaning, bathing animals, or greeting  the public in the afternoon.  This would allow the staff time to complete other tasks and to work with animals that need special attention.  We also need help in transporting animals to the vet.

If you would like to volunteer at Lucy Mac, please contact  the shelter and let us know that you are interested in helping.  You must be 16 years or older to volunteer without adult supervision.  If you are under 16 and would like to volunteer, we require that an adult come with you and stay with you as you help. Please complete our Volunteer Application Form. The volunteer coordinator will then contact you to schedule a time to come to the shelter for an orientation.  During the orientation we will give you a tour of the shelter, and discuss what you would like to do as a volunteer.  We’ll also talk about your availability and scheduling.
