Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society is a proud recipient of funding from Maddie’s Fund, helping to achieve a no-kill nation. #ThanksToMaddie!
This funding will go towards three projects in the coming year that are designed to offer a higher quality of life and care for our animals:
1. A new fenced-in dog yard for dogs to play off of leash and spend time with their new potential families and one-on-one time with our staff and volunteers. This yard will also be large enough for us to hold outdoor agility classes in, too.
2. A two-day seminar for animal care and shelter professionals led by animal behaviorist Myrna Milani, DVM exploring human-animal bonds and the emotional and ethical dilemmas that they are faced with on a daily basis. We look forward to inviting our neighboring colleagues to this highly useful and rewarding seminar free-of-charge.
3. A new computer system to replace a failing system.
This is the second year in a row that Lucy Mackenzie has benefitted from the support of Maddies’s Fund. In 2014, we took part in Maddie’s Adoption Days, a country-wide two-day adoption event sponsored by Maddie’s Fund. We successfully adopted out 34 animals on May 31 and June 1. By agreeing to waive all adoption fees, Maddie’s Fund generously reimbursed every participating rescue or shelter for each animal adopted. The amount of each reimbursement was based on age and health of the animal.
Maddie’s Fund is a family foundation founded in 1994 by Workday co-founder Dave Duffield and his wife, Cheryl, who have endowed the Foundation with more than $300 million. Since then, they have awarded more than $153 million in grants toward increased community lifesaving, shelter medicine education, and pet adoptions across the U.S. The Duffields named Maddie’s Fund after their Miniature Schnauzer Maddie, who always made them laugh and comfort them during stressful business times when Dave was launching a startup software company. Maddie was with Dave and Cheryl from 1987 – 1997 and continues to inspire them today. The Maddie’s Fund mission is to revolutionize the status and well-being of companion animals.
