On Thursday, November 13, Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society worked with the Woodstock Police Department to seize 23 Arabian horses from a farm in Woodstock on suspicion of animal cruelty. These horses have now been relocated to the Green Mountain Horse Association, in South Woodstock, and we’re currently in the process of drawing upon the support of volunteers to provide care for the horses, as well as seeking donations to further help meet their needs.
In the days and weeks ahead, this need will only become greater. Whether you make a donation, or are a direct care volunteer helping with mucking out the stalls, feeding, walking or grooming the horses, no contribution is too big or too small.
There are many ways in which you can help:
1. Make a donation today. The cost to provide care for 23 horses is enormous! Every cent count. Click here to make a donation now or mail your check to Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society, PO Box 702, Brownsville, VT 05037. Please indicate “Horses” on your donation if it’s intended to go directly to the care of these horses.
2. Sign up to volunteer and pick-up a shift or two. We need help around the clock to work with the herd. Not a horse person? No problem! We need your help, too, more than ever at our West Windsor shelter taking care of our cats and dogs. Many opportunities exist. Please contact Jackie at firstname.lastname@example.org or 802-484-LUCY to learn more.
3. Donate any of the following items:
- First-Cut Hay
- Alfalfa Hay
- Sentinel Senior Grain
If you’d like to donate any of these items, or any other items that could be of use, please contact us for details.
As you can imagine, it is quite the mammoth undertaking to help provide the care and support these horses so richly deserve, and any help we can receive at this time would be greatly appreciated!
