Cats, Castaways and More!

As I write to you from my home, I’m surrounded by three adorable and sleepy cats – Gypsy, Max and Jonesy. All three of them are lounging peacefully, presumably enjoying the recent change in temperature.

I’m reaching out to you today to provide you with an update on Lucy Mackenzie’s operations, programs and fundraisers.

As of today, we remain open “by appointment only.” We’re asking the public to give us a call at 802-484-LUCY or email info@lucymac.org to schedule an appointment for adoption, surrender, stray intake, Pet Pantry or any other service.

Adoptions have been amazing over the past few months, which has been a nationwide trend throughout the pandemic. We currently have 1 dog (Lilly) and 7 cats available for adoption. All of our adoptables are listed on our website ( https://www.lucymac.org/pets/) and PetFinder.com. I feel confident saying that our number of adoptable animals will increase in the coming weeks.

We restarted our dog training classes last week! Caron Bronstein, our trainer, has been simply amazing with her flexibility and creativity, and we’re fortunate to have a property that allows for all levels of obedience, agility and rally to be taught outdoors. We are excited to be restarting our spay & neuter clinics on Monday, June 15. We’ve revised our check-in and check-out procedures to make sure everyone stays safe. We have even added two additional clinics in June and July to make up for the clinics cancelled in March, April and May. Learn more here: https://www.lucymac.org/programs/spayneuter/

We have decided to cancel Lucy Mac Kid’s Camp this summer. I’ll admit – it wasn’t an easy decision, by any means. I absolutely adore Kid’s Camp, and wholeheartedly recognize the significance and importance of this program within our community. However, I am very excited to let you know that we are currently developing our “Kid’s Club” – an incredibly fun and educational online club for kids. We very much look forward to presenting this program to you. Stay tuned for further details.

We cancelled our largest annual fundraising event, our Paws for the Cause Auction and Dinner. However, we’re so VERY excited to invite you to join us, Friday, June 26 at 7PM for the online film premiere of “Castaways” – the story of two incredible stray dogs, Wilson and Chuck. Trust me – you are going to fall in love with them! The premiere event will be broadcast on our YouTube channel, and the link will be shared on our website and Facebook page, too. Again, stay tuned for further details.

I won’t deny it – these are weird times we’re all in, for lack of better words. I hope you find solace in the fact that Lucy Mackenzie steadfastly remains here for our community and will carry on in our mission, no matter what. That I will promise you.

All my best,
Jackie Stanley
Executive Director

PS: Gypsy, Max and Jonesy are all Lucy Mackenzie adoptees, and I can’t imagine life without them!
