Adoption FAQs

What does the adoption fee cover?
Each adoptable animal at Lucy Mackenzie has been vaccinated, health-checked, de-wormed, de-fleaed, microchipped, and spayed/neutered prior to placement. Pets who are four months of age or older receive a rabies vaccine. All dogs receive a DHLPP vaccine and are heartworm-tested at five months of age or older. All cats are tested for FeLv and cats 6 months of age and older are tested for FIV.

A checkup with your veterinarian is required within 30 days of placement in your home. A veterinarian can setup your new pet’s account, perform a thorough evaluation, and determine if any additional vaccines are necessary for your pet’s protection.

What information do I need to bring with me when I visit Lucy Mackenzie to adopt an animal?
If you rent a house or apartment please provide paperwork that states it is ok for you to have a pet. If you are interested in adopting a dog and you already have a dog(s) at home you are encouraged to bring them with you for a meet and greet with the potential new family member. It is very important that your current pets are up to date on vaccinations and heartworm preventative.
