Share the Love Event
As part of the Subaru Share the Love Event, the Car Store in Norwich, VT is hosting a food and supply drive for Lucy Mackenzie and Springfield Humane Society. This week, stop by and help to fill-up the Subaru with supplies for the shelters. We would love to see a car-full of needed supplies drive up our driveway at the end of the week!

During the Share the Love event, Subaru will donate $250 to a charity with the sale of each car. Choose the ASPCA (one of five possible charities), and help cats and dogs that need homes. Learn more about the event.

Our Giving Tree Was a Success!
During the holidays we asked visitors to choose a card off our Giving Tree, listing listing an item we needed here at the shelter. When they returned with that item, they placed an ornament on the tree, helping to make it look festive. With your help, our tree was dressed in holiday splendor by the new year, and beneath it were gifts that the shelter can use for many months to come!

Thank You, West Lebanon Feed & Supply
On Saturday, December 10th, and Saturday, December 17th, West Lebanon Feed & Supply held a holiday photo shoot for pets. Proceeds from this year's event were generously donated to Lucy Mackenzie. We enjoyed seeing everyone's cats and dogs in their holiday best, and we thank all those who stopped by and donated!
Winning Entries from National Adopt-A-Dog Story Contest
In October, as part of National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, Lucy Mackenzie ran a story contest in which entrants were asked to submit an inspiring story that shares the rewarding relationship, unending support, and companionship owners receive from their adopted pets. The story could be touching, heart-warming, or heart-wrenching, as long as it helped to spread the word that adopted animals are great additions to a home.

We received many wonderful entries and had a difficult time choosing a winner! Thank you to all who entered! One entry was chosen to be published in our winter newsletter, mailed to 3,000 of our friends. Two additional stories will be featured on our web-site this month. Because we enjoyed reading each entry, we would also like to make them available to everyone to read. Beginning in January, we will feature one story a month until October.

Woman Conquered Highest Peaks for
Lucy Mackenzie!
Kristin Rokos ran up (and down) all five of Vermont’s 4,000 footers in a single 24-hour period on Saturday, August 20th, 2011 to raise money for the Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society. The total mileage she covered by foot was 30.7, and total elevation gain was just shy of 10,000 feet; covering some of the steepest, most grueling terrain that the Northeast has to offer. We thank Kristin for her incredible efforts to help the animals here at Lucy Mackenzie! Visit Kristin's web-site, and donate in honor of her journey.

Barn Construction Complete
Our barn has undergone some significant renovations in make room for our expanding educational programs. We were lucky to work with Housewright Construction, who did an incredible job managing the effort and keeping construction on target. They partnered with the Southeast State Correctional Facility in Windsor through the Department of Correction, who has provided skilled labor to help complete the project. As part of the Vermont Offender Work Program and Vermont Correctional Industries, offenders are given meaningful work opportunities and job training to help them succeed when they return to their communities. Lucy Mackenzie is proud to be a recipient of the skilled work that has been completed. View photos of the project on Facebook.
