We received so many great entries to our writing contest during National Adopt-A-Shelter Dog Month, that we've decided to feature one story each month on our site, beginning in January. If you would like to receive an e-mail when the stories are posted on our site, please let us know!

Thank you to everyone who submitted an entry. We were moved by your words, and are excited to be able to share your experiences with others. Below is this month's featured story.

Zack
by Cheryl and Mike Gonyea

About 6 years ago our beloved "Zack", a big part Black Lab and part New Fondland, died from cancer and left such a void. We got him from a humane society and he was such an awesome dog. I really missed my walking friend, so after almost a year my husband and I talked about adopting another dog. We went to "Puppy Angels" in Hopkinton, NH and met "Monique", who was a Chocolate Lab. She was from Kentucky and she melted our hearts. We adopted her and changed her name to "Molly" because she just didn't look like a "Monique"!! Molly is such a good dog and so very loveable. I think rescued dogs are just so thankful and everyday she tells me thank you. Just the way that she can be laying on her bed looking at me and for no reason come over to give me a big sloppy kiss, and then go back to laying down, it's like a reminder of how thankful she is. I would tell anyone to give rescues a chance, and really think of adopting a dog. You will be thankful you did AND they will be very thankful too!
