Hi! my name’s Athusa and I’m a 2-year-old spayed female Mastiff Mix. I was brought to Lucy Mackenzie after being abandoned by my former owner. I was sad and really, really confused at first, but lots of good things have happened since I’v been here. I’ve been spayed, vaccinated and I’ve made many people friends that want to help me find my new home. We’ve worked a lot on obedience training, and I’m getting better every single day! I’m a really, strong and active dog and would love to find people that are active, too. I can imagine going on long walks and hikes. Oh, that would be really nice! I will need to be the only animal (no other dogs or cats) and it would be great if my new people had dog training experience. If you think we might be an excellent match, stop in and meet me today!

Hi! My name's Bailey and I'm a 6-year-old spayed female Mixed Breed. I'm a big beautiful girl that is very big on love! I came to Lucy Mackenzie when my dad died. I was lost without him at first, but then I made lots of new friends. Making new friends is one of my most favorite things! Since I've been here, lots of good things have happened. I've always had really red itchy skin, but not anymore! In my former life, I really loved human food....like really, really loved it. I can't have it anymore, because it makes me feel horrible. I also eat a special hypoallergenic food that has made such a difference! In my new home, I would like very comfy beds, a nice fenced in area I can play in and people that will make sure I lead a healthy life. My new home would have no cats or small dogs. I could probably live with another larger dog, as long as we got along. I'm a fun-loving girl that promises to bring lots of smiles and laughs to my new family. If you think we'd be a good match, stop in and meet me today!

Hi! My name is Bella and I’m a 1-year-old spayed female Mixed Breed. I was adopted as a puppy from Lucy Mackenzie and recently returned because it wasn’t the right household for me. Since I’ve been back at Lucy Mackenzie, we’ve been working hard on building my confidence, and finding healthy ways to get my energy out. I’ve been doing lots of new things, including meeting strangers, having lots of walks and play time outdoors, and even going through obedience training classes with one of my favorite people. From what I understand, it’s important for me to be safely exposed to new environments and people, to help me feel more confident. My ideal home is one where there are no cats (sorry, cats), no young children (sorry, young children), and adults that are willing to help me grow and be consistent in my training. It would be a definite plus if you like to go on long walks, too. If you’ve been looking to adopt a dog, and have the patience needed to help me succeed, stop in and meet me today!

Black with small white patch I’m here with my brother, Lobo. You won’t find a sweeter pair of brothers. We may be HIV+ but that makes the love we have to give all the more life affirming. DOB: 3/7/16 app Lucy Mac Arrival: 3/7/18 This is from a volunteer and board member and is applicable to Black Jack and Lobo. "Do I choose the pet, or does the pet choose me? It’s not uncommon for knowledgeable pet people to support the perspective that the right  animal is going to find you interesting and will seek to be your friend.  And that may well be the ideal animal to bring home!  In that case, the animal finds you. But there is also a likelihood that there is a truly lovely animal who is very sad after recently losing their long time human and is sitting quietly in the corner.  Or perhaps there is another animal who is dying to walk over and meet you, but is intimidated in the presence of a crowd of other animals.  One of those might be the right pet for you too!? But, the good news, we have animals who have made huge progress in trusting despite the noise and occasional chaos which is sometimes normal in a shelter.  We have animals who might have come from abusive situations and DESPITE that they are willing to try to trust again. What they need now is a chance to get to know their human in a new home where they can fall in love.   Our staff has insights into the background and current progress and needs of all the animals.  They know the older animals who are trying to understand this new reality after having one home for a decade or more.  Those animals want nothing more than to find a new friend to bond with..  They know the pets who have recovered or are recovering from injuries or medical issues.  These animals deserve to be rewarded for their tenacity and fighting their way back to health. Will the animal choose you?  Perhaps, but maybe only if you ask the right questions and look at some of the animals who will not come running to you right away, even though they want to."

In my former home, I was an indoor-outdoor cat who got along well with other cats. Here at the shelter I like treats but I'm having a hard time adjusting to the noise and routine of the place. Fortunately for me, I'm in the indoor-outdoor room and I spend most of my time in a 'house' in the outside area. Do you have a home for me where I can just be who I am, independent and anxious to have a chance for affection? Update: I've been moved to a new room where I am doing better. And I found a friend, Chase! Now all Chase and I need is a person who can love us for who we are. DOB: 3/25/09 app. Lucy Mac Arrival: 3/25/16

Right now I feel like curling up and sleeping my life away. I was surrendered because the other household cats were terrifying me and look where I ended up! Rescue me, please! Update: 8/13/2017 I'm slowly awakening to the joys of having other cats for friends. I particularly like Marmie. We spend a lot of time curled up together in my cave. DOB: 1/30/16 app. Lucy Mac Arrival: 5/31/17 I was surrendered due to a change in a living situation. Some give-ups aren’t very optional and guardians are doing the best they can. In my former home, I learned to love well and to have fun. I was an inside/outside cat who did well with toddlers and children. Update 8/13/17 I'm having a difficult time here at the shelter. I am stressed by all the other cats. I think I should be the king and I'm complaining to everyone about it. It doesn't keep me from playing or enjoying catnip or plowing into a volunteer's bag, it just that my wild side is coming through. I need a home to show my other fabulous traits, kindness, affection, and love. Update 2018-06-02 It's amazing what good medical care can do. I had a health issue that is being treated with the proper medication. I am feeling much better. I like my room at the shelter and the other cats in the room but now I'm ready for someone to love me and take me home. DOB: 1/30/16 app. Lucy Mac Arrival: 5/31/17

Hi!  My name's Robin and I'm a 3-year-old neutered male Mixed Breed dog that came to Lucy Mackenzie as a stray.  Life hasn't always been easy for me, but I'm looking forward to starting over in my new home.  I'm a fun-loving active fella that has tons of potential, and lots of love to give!  Since I've been here, we've spent lots of time working on basic behaviors, like how to walk on a leash, how to sit, and stay.  Patience isn't something that comes easy to me, but I'm getting there!  I'd be the only animal in my ideal home, and my human would be committed towards continuing my training with me.  All I really need in life is a second chance.  If you've been looking for a new best friend, stop in and meet me today! I am a Lucy Mac boomerang. I was adopted from Lucy Mac as a youngster in 2002 and returned in 2007. I was adopted out again in early 2010 and returned a year and a half later in late 2011. That's what Lucy Mac is for, is to take care of animals like me. But I would love to leave here for another home of my own, this one hopefully permanent. I am a gentle, overweight, needy cat, who wants to be by your side most of the time, admiring you. I don't want to sit on your lap or be picked up. I just want to be near you and send you loving looks and get pets from you. I am anxious. If you take me home, you should be aware that I might have litter box issues until I start to feel like I know the territory. Cats have nine lives, or so I've heard. I am probably on my fifth. But my fifth life could be the start of a fabulous future for you and me. I will bring affection, warmth, and gratitude with me and fill your life with good cheer. D.O.
